Relocating
is an exciting, yet frightening event. Growing
up in Alamogordo,
Claudia found this out
first hand in 1960, when at the age of five, and speaking very
little English, she and her Mother followed their new American
step-father and husband from their home in Germany to Holloman Air
Force Base. Claudia attended
elementary school both at Holloman and Alamogordo. Her fondest childhood
memories of the area are the days she and her family spent camping
in the mountains and at La Luz Creek just a few miles north of
Alamogordo. Claudia would spend days looking for fossils and
arrowheads, playing with tadpoles and following the creek as it
meandered in it’s rocky bed down from the canyons into La
Luz. Returning to
Alamogordo from South Carolina in 1981,Claudia’s marriage to
Hugh brought her back to La Luz and the rocks, pottery shards, and
animals that she loved as a child.
Raising
children in this area, Claudia
understands the contribution that a small town upbringing makes to
children. Willie, her son learned bravery on his dirt bike, and
Anna, Claudia’s daughter, learned self discipline on the backs
of her horses. In 1997, when their children left for college in Las Cruces, Claudia
and Hugh then moved to High Rolls.
To
live here is to love the land. At first glance, the
mountains and desert may seem barren and lifeless, but given a
closer look, the west face rises to canyons of Pinion, Juniper and
tall Pines. This is the landscape that has inspired so many famous
artists, such as Peter Hurd, Doug West and Georgia O’Keefe.
The
desert blooms
into new life every spring. Claudia has always had a native plant
garden. She has seen the effects of patience, and understands that
each plant has its own personality and requirements.
That same attitude toward her clients has rewarded Claudia with
their loyalty and trust since 1986.
Discovering
the uniqueness of the Tularosa Basin and all of it’s
subtle beauty takes a little time and patience. It also helps to
have someone to guide you. Claudia has a unique
knowledge of the area, it’s flora , it’s fauna... and it’s
diverse cultures. When you need a Realtor to help you sell or buy
a home in the Alamogordo area, call Claudia Powell, one of the
most well known names in Alamogordo real estate.
